[Truthfully, most people with an avian daemon already gains points in Revali's books -- as if they were a sign they're worth some time. Seeing the hawk just confirms to Revali that, perhaps, he has chosen wisely.
Well, of course he did! His judgment isn't mistaken. Usually.
Revali needs a bit of a break from carving a bow for himself. It's been taking a tad longer than expected, and hey, Yelena is over there! Better now than later, he supposes]
If you have a moment I have a request.
[Not even a greeting. At least he didn't outright make a demand. Whatever he has in mind must be something he really relies on other people for, for him to at least be civil]
[Oh, criminy, Revali is speaking with the sort of pompousness that comes so easily to him, gesturing and swiping wings around]
I'm an excellent archer first and foremost, yet I had my bow taken away for a few days! And during that time, I came to realize that, although I have strength on my side-- [to some extent] --I cannot rely only on my usual fighting style. It would be shameful if I was unable to face danger and protect anyone because I'm unarmed!
[And also he got in a fistfight with Akira and it was a stalemate, and he absolutely hated that. Should have been an easy win against a punk like him]
So I wish to correct that potential flaw. While I already have the most basic concepts down pat, it won't be enough. And of course, practice against a competent opponent is necessary for improvement, isn't it?
Exactly. Feel free to not hold back -- it'd be insulting if you did.
[And in a real battle nobody holds back, really.
This...probably won't end well for Revali, really. Even though he's strong and really fit, directly fighting like that isn't his thing and it's plain to see, hah. But hey, speed and being able to improvise definitely are his strong points, so at least he has something to work with!]
she is... very good, so combat being on her skills list is definitely not an exaggeration. and while she is great with weapons, yelena is especially good with hand to hand fighting.
so. this will be neat! she can't say she has fought with a lot of giant birds so it'll be a fun experience. ]
[Excellent. Having gotten that confirmation, Revali gets ready right away. Truthfully, he wishes he still had magic. Control over wind really would make him hit much harder -- but he doesn't have not even that much.
Still! He pretty much launches himself at her, without warning and pretty much leaping like a feathery canonball. Still, it's little more than a feint, really -- a quick move meant to see what'd be her first move. Would she try to defend herself, would she try to attack back, he has no idea what to expect from her!
But hey, at least he can be sure she's not one to back down! That's the one thing he's certain about, and he can respect that. That she accepted is something he greatly appreciates]
she will make an attempt move out of the way, but right after the dodge, yelena will go to aim a kick at him. it's mostly to try to knock him off balance than anything else.
fighting on sand is already tricky enough, since just walking on it is a pain, but at least they will both get a good workout from that alone! ]
[Damn right that's going to get a good workout, haha!
Says a lot about what he's used to in his fighting style that he doesn't dodge -- the kick connecting, hitting him! But he lets himself be pushed away, not resisting it. Revali sure feels pretty light! Getting back his balance, his wings make some sand float up briefly, just for a second, enough to try to get Yelena to try to cover her eyes]
Eyes on me!
[Of course he couldn't not cockily say something while he, wings curled and cutting through what little sand was still in the air by now, attempting to hit Yelena from upwards, to throw her down onto the ground. Subduing may be the best way to defeat something while unarmed, he thinks!]
but he manages to land the blow! and she'll fall down onto her back. she blinks, but she just moves immediately after, going to try to kick his legs out from under him to also bring him to the ground.
if anything, she mostly seems pleased by this? it's fun. ]
[Do you know how much sand sticks to feathers? Once Revali falls to the ground, he looks like he's trying to soak the entire beach onto his body. Doesn't help he flounders, caught offguard by her bringing him down. When you're a flying warrior, you don't get thrown to the ground often, you know!
The only solution was to roll away from her, managing to stand up to glare at her. He seems a bit frustrated, but truthfully it's been useful! And that's what matters to him]
Looks like being limited to land is more of a handicap than I thought!
[Learning to overcome things is pretty much what he does with his life, so at least he's on the right direction, hah.
Now that's more like what he expects! Revali blocks with his wings, getting tense. Not even close to a rock-solid defense, but at least it feels like he can endure pain! What kind of self-respecting warrior couldn't! At least he has one thing on his favor while he's defending himself and he knows it: he's got talons! And talons is what he'll use, damn right!
It's a little awkward, but he manages to raise a leg, attempting to grip Yelena by the knee, to throw her off balance. All he has to do is keep her down on the ground, and he's pretty much guaranteed to succeed! At least that's the plan]
[ it is a good plan. the main issue with it is that yelena is, actually, good at fighting while on the ground, but that's a later problem.
for now, though, since they're in close proximity to each other, she's going to try to grab onto his arm... wing... wing-arm, and will move to twist it awkwardly. she's not aiming to break it, but to just make it as uncomfortable as possible to get him to back off before they both fall down. ]
[It's not painful! And this wing certainly feels pretty flexible, but from the way Revali freezes, looks like it bothers him. He can't risk an injury on his wings! He can't afford to be forced to rest when there might be serious danger in the very close future!
But backing down doesn't seem like an option either. He can't do that! He can't be the one to give up!
He's definitely not moving an inch from his current, very uncomfortable position. Only matter of time before he falls down -- and even if he doesn't he'll have to stop, really, to avoid injury. It's a loss for him either way!]
yelena is currently walking around the city. she is very obviously looking for something, but that shouldn't be weird considering they are missing a whole ass person at the moment. wow. ]
[Damn right! Revali has pretty much been going from high place to high place, all over the place. No point in holding back, he has been climbing to balconies, to high windows, to all those staircases that make this city be so claustrophobic. He may be unable to fly, but he's still going to take advantage of how comfortable he feels with heights! A feather or two fluttering in the wind pretty much proves he's nearby.
Ah. Yelena is there. Revali stands on a balcony. ]
[They're searching for a huge question mark, apparently! What's his name, again? Marion Pondicherry? Revali can't even recall that much -- he hasn't crossed not even a single word with the guy]
But if anything happened to him there should be some sign out there he was attacked. If there's not even that much then perhaps he's unharmed and we have gotten concerned over nothing.
[That's true. Right now they're flying in the dark. Oh well]
Why aren't the Watchers saying anything? There's no way they don't know already what happened -- and they're not responding to any bottles. Unless... [Hmmm...] ...has anyone seen them? They may be dead too.
[In which case wow, being in this city is a death sentence, rip]
[Well that's too bad. Revali jumps off the balcony back to street level]
Want to come along to the tower? If they refuse to come and talk, then attempting to corner them where they reside is an option.
[And this time he's not getting anyone to throw a rock to the windows of that tower or something, not after Rex got injured by doing that. Lessons learned]
[What matters is that they try! Nothing risked, nothing gained!
The tower really seems as inexpugnable as usual, really. All those angels, the way this is locked...it seriously feels like this is where the key to many things is at, and it's there, taunting them all with how it's impossible to enter.
Ridiculous! At the sight of it, Revali looks upwards, idly pondering about getting up there with flight even though he literally can't. It's going to take a while before he gets used to not having such a basic ability]
I find it hard to believe there's only one entrance. Important buildings have all sorts of ways in and out, it can't be there's no secret tunnel or a disguised door.
[Unfortunately for them all this isn't the Legend of Zelda, so there isn't. Oh well!]
[Ah, geez, things have gotten pretty bad, in just one week. Almost impressive...if it wasn't completely vexing and bad for everybody.
You know what's a possibility, in his opinion? That there's foul play involved. Look, this is a murdergame, there may be something bad going on]
...you.
[Not a friendly greeting!]
I want a second opinion about something. I have no proof nor reason to think it beyond wariness towards the situation at hand, so don't ruffle your feathers about it. In fact, mind not spreading word around about this thought?
[Apparently he considers Yelena trustworthy enough to shoot the crap with her! Well, to some extent because he's not one for social visits, hah.
But yeah, it probably is Revali suspecting things too much, he's 95% likely wrong. Fair warning!]
[ she just nods. because hey, even if whatever he is about to say is stupid, then that's fair. someone else is dead and it obviously was not the cannibal who did it probably. ]
Listen this and tell me if this is the wrong train of thought.
[Well at least he doesn't hesitate before talking:]
There's no reason to think those that still haven't arrived yet are somewhere under this ocean, hm? Since there's no path to follow, they managed to find a way to go back to the city we were at before.
[Back to that rundown, claustrophobic city! Whether it's because they got there by themselves or they got helped -- or fooled -- by someone is not determined yet, but as he sees it, it's hard to think they're in a completely new, unrelated location. The thing is -- and he says, at least having the decency to not sound certain at all...]
But the reason they still haven't returned after this long is because they're trying to stay there for longer. Maybe even long enough to avoid the trial. One way or another, they got back and are trying to find a way to avoid the trial that's to come.
[True, it's impossible for any of the missing ones to be the culprit if there really was a death! But circumventing the competition, hm...yeah, that's pretty much his thought: that maybe the reason why they couldn't find them was because they had managed to somehow get out of this whole thing, even if it was just for a while.
...yeah, he's not very great at this. Revali is faaaaar from stupid, but he's not one made for investigations or deductions. He's blindly trying to force things to make sense somehow and that's just pretty hard for him]
[ she, at least, seems to seriously consider the idea for a long moment. ]
I am not sure if that would really work. Not that people wouldn't attempt it, but just the logistics of it. We were made to just move automatically if we took too long to go to the opera house last time, right? So the same would probably happen again.
... you will just have a longer walk.
[ so it's less that she doesn't think it's something someone would try to do, and more that she thinks it would end in failure. ]
[Revali very obviously gives consideration to Yelena's words, but it truly is a bit beyond his comprehension. It's not like Hyrule lacks magic -- there's plenty of it, but he had never been one to really pay much attention to much of it, just to what he and the other Champions used. Now that it's all not so familiar to him, he really is flying blindly and aimlessly.
Uf, he hates this, he really does]
...I can't even figure out if you're right or not!
[Really, it's frustrating. This whole place and its events are all made to frustrate him, apparently!]
Had you ever seen anything like this before? Any of...this?
[This as in everything taht happened in the murdergame, really. Revali isn't the sort of person to give up, but he really is starting to believe he's outmatched and refuses to admit it aloud, hah. Asking that question is almost an attempt to get validation that he's not alone in his growing cluelessness!]
All I have known for years is archery and fighting through it. As long as I have this bow, if I were to get in some sort of death match I'd come up on top with ease!
[Things to say knowing Suigetsu killed him one week later after a fight]
