But even besides the mystery of his whereabouts, there's also what happened last night. Us getting locked in. Someone was thinking that maybe it is some sort of defense system, but... it's hard to say at this point.
In my case, I was locked out, which was... even stranger. Those of us in the courtyard found ourselves unable even to move around town, beyond the immediate vicinity.
Like for us, we were two separate groups in the opera building, but we couldn't move between floors. Why keep us apart like that? If I looked over the balcony, I could see them downstairs, but we couldn't even talk to each other.
[He pulls out his notebook from an inner pocket of his jacket, and writes something.] It's hard to conceive of what kind of phenomenon could do such a thing, preventing even the travel of sound...
[He pauses abruptly, a peculiar look in his eyes. Then, after a beat, he resumes.]
I would say maybe whatever barrier was holding us blocked out noise, but then those weird sounds still reached us-- the singing, and the alarms and all that. Very selective. There could be a speaker system, I guess.
[ a very well hidden one, if they haven't found a trace of it. ]
But it does imply that if something happens, you would be unable to call for help.

It seems we've been relying on you a lot lately. Both in these investigations, and also in aiding the injured. If I may ask, what kind of work did you do before coming here...?
I've done a few different types of jobs. I did a lot of... information gathering? At one point. Espionage.
[ that one is on her profile. ]
At the moment, I was in the process of trying to shut down a former employer after I realized he was a piece of shit human. But I was brought here before I finished that.
Hm, he did a lot of things... lots of killing. Stealing money. The usual works.
But he built his empire on kidnapping young girls and training them to be his operatives. He started with psychologically manipulating them, but he later moved onto chemical subjugation. [ ... ] Brainwashing. So, I want to free all of the girls, and get rid of him.

[He looks up at the buildings.]
If he's in one of those buildings, it may take a while, yes.
Though I'm inclined to wonder if this may follow the pattern of the two victims we previously discovered...

At the very least, he is of age, so he would be a potential target of them.
